Michigan apparently has many links to corporate money.
Although the following article is about Maine and its fight to preserve voter registration laws, it reveals that the money to oppose keeping same day registration came from a donor within Michigan, the American Justice Partnership
The Article appeared in the Portland Press Herald and other papers about the country.
The AJP has it out for George Soros who is described in Wikipedia as a Hungarian-American business magnate, investor, philosopher, and philanthropist. Soros supports progressive-liberal causes. He is the chairman of Soros Fund Management and closely connected to the Open Society Institutute.
